This tour takes you to the outskirts of Hue, to visit the villages of Thanh Tien and Sinh. Your guide will meet you at your hotel and bring you to the boat landing either by car or by foot depending on the location of your hotel. You can relax and enjoy a gentle cruise downstream. You will drift by the Dong Ba Market located by the Hen islet and arrive at the Sinh Handicraft Village where you will greeted by the charming Ky Huu Phuoc and his wife. Ky Huu Phuoc is one of the few artisans left working in this craft. He is delighted to demonstrate to you this craft of creating prints in an age old style. You will be invited to create a print of your own Chinese Horoscope sign as you learn about the painstaking preparation of the handmade paper, glaze made from shells out of the river, paint tinted by natural colorings and even hand made paint brushes from local bushes. You have this treasured opportunity of meeting and spending time with the best of the remaining local artisans still working in this ancient trade and, if you choose to, purchasing some of the creations to take home with you as momentum.
We then take to our cycles to visit the neighboring village of Thanh Tien. This village is famous for its handcrafted paper flowers especially the traditional flower of Vietnam, the Lotus. These flowers are just beautiful and made with such care and precision.
After your stay at Thanh Tien, we will continue on our cycle ride through the local paddy fields and pastures where you can enjoy the beauty of the local scenery and see locals going about their daily activities of wet rice cultivation and flower gardening.
We complete the day with a car journey back to Hue and to your hotel.

Hundreds of years ago, most of the villagers around Thanh Tien and Sinh earned their money producing the folk paintings and paper flowers that are used mainly for worship. These local products expressed the mystical, nature-based beliefs of the ancient Vietnamese. The methods of producing these products were taught from one generation to the next to keep the craft alive. Sadly, these unique handicrafts are being threatened due to the burden of economic development and the modest income they bring in for the artisans.
Today, the pictures and the flowers are still used for worship but they are also available to purchase by tourists to take home with them as a souvenir of their trip to Hue.
