This half day experience is completely new and unique for tourists. It offers the opportunity to go into a local family’s home and experience their lives and traditions firsthand. The experience begins with a trip to the local market with your host to shop for the fresh food that will be used to prepare for either lunch or dinner (depending on when you do the trip). The family members will love to share something of their family history, their culture and their way of life with you. I am sure you will get to share some family photos and other memorabilia and someone most certainly will be delighted to teach you some Vietnamese words. This is a unique opportunity not to be missed to experience time spent with local Vietnamese family in their own environment and to share time with them.

In the morning, your host for the day will meet you at your hotel. Start the greeting off right by saying ‘Xin Chao’ (pronounced ‘sin chow’), meaning ‘hello’. You will go for a short trip to your host’s house with the option of stopping at a vibrant local market to shop for produce for the preparation of lunch.
Once at your host’s house, you are encouraged to view the family’s photo albums as well sharing cultural experiences with one another. You can also join in with the preparing and cooking of the traditional dishes that will be served during lunch.
Afterwards, you will go for a short walk to visit the family ancestral house to learn about the customs associated with worship. You will also get to meet with an artist who currently holds the record for the most paintings exhibited on the street during our world famous Hue Festival.
Finally, back to the house for lunch to enjoy the fruits of your labor. You will learn about the ingredients as well how to prepare each dish while having your lunch. You will also learn about the history of the dishes. At the end of the tour, you will return to your hotel or continue your trip.
This excursion can be arranged for the morning or the afternoon. Mornings start at 8:00/9:00 am and finish around 1:00 pm. The afternoon option starts at 11:00/12.00 concluding at 3.00pm. The Itinerary is the same except for the absence of the shopping trip with the afternoon excursion.
